Most of us use our phones more than our computers for just about everything these days (Pinterest, Instagram, Googling, Facebook, Waze ….) and that goes for using The Dinner Daily too. Our website has always been “responsive” (meaning it automatically resizes depending on what device you use), but we wanted to give our mobile users an even better experience. What you see on your computer isn’t always the best way to view it on your phone. So we’re very pleased to be introducing our new mobile menu and shopping list to make mobile meal planning easier!
Making Mobile Meal Planning Easier for Dinner Daily Members
If you use The Dinner Daily on your phone, you’ve probably already noticed the enhancements to the Shopping List that we launched a week or so ago. We re-structured the mobile shopping list with the goal of making it easier in the store. Here are the key changes: (you’ll only see most changes if you view on your phone)
We’ve reordered the sections to better align with the layout of most stores, starting with Produce. (this change was also made to the computer view)
Each section can collapse, so you can open just the section you need
There is a running count of how many items in the section are left to be bought – if you’ve bought them all, there’s a check mark!
The screen won’t fall asleep while you are using the shopping list. (no more having to wake up your phone between items!)
Some information that you probably won’t need in the store has been moved to the bottom of the page (like the weekly menu list and print buttons)
Here’s how it looks:
New Mobile Menu Format
Today we launched enhancements to our mobile menu to make it easier to do your planning and cooking!
The first thing you’ll notice is when you open your menu on your phone, you can see all of meals at once! No need to scroll and scroll. You can make changes and favorite recipes right from that view, and you can click on any recipe to expand it to see the details. If you are cooking from your phone, your phone screen won’t fall asleep if you have a recipe open, (no more trying to wake up your phone with sticky fingers!) And, also like the new mobile shopping list, information that you might not need as often has been moved to the bottom.
We think you’ll love these changes and we have more planned for our mobile users. As always, we love to hear from you so if you use our mobile menu and shopping list, please tell us what you think in the comment section below.
Hi, really like what you’ve been doing with your mobile app. Heck, when you introduced the ability to check off items on the grocery list it really made my day. Super easy now to swap recipes and see what’s what.
But can you please, please introduce some sort of persistent or simplified log-in. My (by-far) biggest issue with the app is having to manually enter my username and password every time I open up the app. Sure, it may seem like a mountain from a molehill, but it truly negatively impacts my user experience. I don’t know what would go into making this sort of update possible, but jeez, having the ability to stay logged in or even log in with my fingerprint, well, that would be swell.
Hi Dan, thanks for you comment and we totally agree. What we actually suggest is to delete our app (we plan to replace it) and in the meantime add an icon to your phone screen to our website. You can do that by navigating to http://www.thedinnerdaily.com on your phone browser and then on an iPhone, tapping the book like icon to the left of the browser bar or on an Android tapping on the vertical black dots to the right and selecting add to home screen. When you do that and log in, you should find that you will stay logged in. Sorry again our app isn’t as good as it needs to be, but thats also why we’ve been working on making our mobile experience better outside of the app. Thanks for using The Dinner Daily!
