We test our system to see if helps save at Publix!
You may have heard our claims of “five dinners for a family of five for $85 or less”, and “we save you 20% or more on the cost of your food every week”. And while we test it frequently against stores in New England, does it work in stores elsewhere in the country? Specifically, does it help people save at Publix?
We decided to find out!
One member of our team was in Florida and shopped our Family Plan Menu at a Publix in Ft. Myers (with no changes to the original menu as provided by our system) Here is the menu and shopping list for the week:
The Dinner Daily’s customized meal plan system is designed to create weekly menus that meet members individual food preferences and dietary needs AND which makes maximum use of weekly specials on fresh ingredients. Does that hold up? Yes – just about half of the things on the shopping list are on sale as you can see, which makes it more likely that we can help save at Publix. We shopped everything on the list.
So how much was the total cost and the savings? See for yourself!
The total cost for everything on our shopping list was $83.83 with savings of over $21. And we had a few left over ingredients good for other meals, so the true cost of the five dinners was even less than $83. So we truly did save at Publix.
That means the average dinner for a family of five using our system costs just over $15 a meal for this menu! Compare that to the cost of a five person meal from one of the meal kit services which would be between $35 and $45 per meal.
So, our claim of five dinners for five people for $85 or less, and 20% overall savings holds true in Florida, which ads up to over $1000/year in savings. Other meal plans make this claim, but without the tie to store sales, we don’t know how they back it up (or ever see them test it or prove it) like we do. Where should we test it next?
